My favorite band.

Yes, I have a new favorite band. They are strange, quirky, literate, brave, and super talented. They are The Decemberists, and they sing songs about things like mariners, chimney sweeps, prostitutes, Valerie Plame, and drowning, and they do musical interpretations of Irish myths (one six part, 18 minute track), traditional folktales (one album, 17 tracks, one hour), and Shakespeare's The Tempest (one 15 minute track). And that's really just scratching the surface. Here's their recent appearence on KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic, performing selections from their most recent album, The Hazards of Love. (Which is the melding of several different folktale themes into one 17 track narrative album.)
